Anyone have any tips or tricks for making a round bottom stuff sack.

Ive had "fair" results getting the edges of the bottom circle to line up with the edges of the tube portion of the sack. But it takes quite a while to work my way around pinning and repinning to get it right.

It is much easier to make square bottoms. Your process seams correct. there are really no short cuts, just keep pinning.

Good catch - or should I say, "You pinned it" or "You have that sewn up"!

Do you do your square bottoms same as wrapping a present - fold two sides in and sew a simple seam (like would become a french seam), then fold the corners in and sew the diagonals?

Or do you actually sew a separate square piece as the bottom?

I have better luck with square or rectangular bottoms as well. Everything has to be perfect for the round bottom to come out right.
On my squares, I sew across the bottom corners then cut off the extra rather than sew them down.

Windchill just informed me of this groups existence, and the round bottom stuff sack conversation. So I thought I share my round bottom stuff sack technique.

I watched the video this morning...it makes the round bottom look easier than my method of pinning. Ill give it a try on the next one.

The square bottom video was an ah-ha for me. Ive always folded the triangles in and secured them rather than stitching and cutting them off - DUH!

Thanks redoleary

When my wife caught me "pinning" the seams by using a stapler, she recommended that I buy my own sewing machine. But it made doing a round-bottomed stuff sack a snap.

I have also had success by sewing the bottom onto the main part of the bag first. So I sew a flat rectangle on to my circle, leaving my seam allowance on the tube of the bag unattached to the circle bottom, and ten stitching the side seam last.
