This is the list I have so far. I know my list is not exhaustive as some of the stuff we carry for ourselves will work for our dog.

Looking for others input/thoughts/additions. Med dosages will be based on our vet's recommendation for our dog.

-antiseptic spray/wipes
-coated asprin
-butterfly bandaids
-gauze
-waterproof surgical tape
-vet wrap
-tick tweezers
-ear drops (ottomax)
-eye drops (saline and terramycin)
-kwik stop gel for dogs
-first aid gel/spray for dogs
-foot balm
-hemostat
-benadryl
-activated charcoal
-chemical ice pack
-cotton balls + Q-tips

Most of what you bring for a normal first aid kit can work for dogs with the one BIG exception of ibuprofen, never give that to dogs.

I think the list you have looks pretty good, most will serve double purpose for you or the dog. The one addition I might suggest is hydrogen peroxide. See if you can find a small bottle or maybe find a small dark container you can pour some into. If you can get it in some sort of small squeeze bottle even better. Hydrogen peroxide is really handy if the dog eats something that is going to make them sick. Pouring some peroxide down the dogs throat will have them puking it up in just a few minutes. The squeeze bottle will make it easier to force it down their throat. At home I use a turkey baster at it works great. The dog will look miserable after you give it to them but as soon as they puke they'll be back to normal. It really is a quick solution if they get into something. It can obviously also be used to clean wounds for pet or humans.

It has saved me more than one expensive vet bill.

I suppose it depends on the length of the trip and where you'll be. I'm planning to be out for a month or longer later this summer on a pretty isolated trip so I'll be bringing along anti-biotics, sutures, local anesthetic, and something that will either put her to sleep or at least make her very relaxed. A razor blade to shave away hair would be a good idea too.

Most of those will (hopefully not) be for my personal use as well.

I can think of one more BIG exception - I'm not putting his thermometer in my mouth! Thermometer is a helpful way to tell if a dog is just tired or really sick. Note that dog's normal temperature is higher than humans - 101 to 102.5.

I also bring along a dog boot to help protect bandages in case of foot injury.

I suppose you could just take your own temp the same way you take his. Would that make sharing any better?

Helpful info from everyone - with a few more things I'll be adding. Some ideas I hadn't considered. Our trip is about 10 days in the fall in the Q, so I'll talk with the vet about the possibility of bringing prescription strength meds.

And yeah, dog gets her own thermometer. :)

Man, there's not enough alcohol in the world - either the denatured germ-killing kind or the fully natured judgement-killing kind - to make that seem like a good way to save 1/4 of one once of pack weight!

Glad to see this thread...working on putting together my own kit right now.

Another dog-specific thing I'm bringing is a brush so I can get burs or tangles out of his fur while on the trip if he gets into something like that. I've wished on past camping trips that I had a brush. And no, I'm not sharing mine!
