I have two reels with fly line on from last year. Should I have removed the line last fall off the reels and put back on the spools they came with? The spools are a bigger size than the reels. Is my fly line still good or will it now have a memory set in the line? Thanks

A good stretch is all they need. I tie the old leader to a tree walk away until I hit backing, then put a bit of pressure on the line for a minute or two. Reel it all in and I am good to go. Been doing that for over 25 years. Most lines last me 5 - 6 years.

Thanks Mike, I tried gently pulling on a small section of the line and it went back to no memory. I will do the whole line this weekend.

You should also clean the fly line.

Ditto. I like to take my spools out on the lawn in the spring, stretch the line and then give it a clean and lube reeling it in. Just make sure the grass is not freshly cut or you might have green line.
