I live in rural Northwest Tennessee and have never hunted in the north and was wondering: Those of you who hunt the BWCA or the Northwoods in general, what is your rifle of choice?

Others will have their own opinions but the two rifles us Minnesotans consider our "Up North" rifles would be the 30-06 and the 30-30 . I take my .270 sometimes if I'm hunting Open terrain.

30-06 is nice because of the range of bullets you can get. Pretty much hunt anything with it.

There are a lot of rifles you can use. 30-06 is probably the most common but you'll see a lot of .270, 30-30, .308, .243, etc.

In roughly the southern third of the state you are also limited to shot guns and slugs.

They all kill deer just as dead as the next but each may have its own slight advantage or disadvantage.

I prefer 7 mm's, 7mm-08, 7mm Mauser, 7mm Magnum because I reload and there is no other size that has the reloading advantages of super high BC and ammunition choice of the 7mm (when you reload).
