I'm doing a three week traveling solo trip this September and was wondering what the best footwear system is for this. The boots that I have are waterproof and I really like them but after a couple of long days of portaging they tend to irritate the back of my leg.

Love my Chota Trekker/Hippie combo. Perfect for shoulder month opportunities.

For hard travel days I use OTB abyss with Chota Caney Fork waterproof socks for cold days in the cold water. If the weather is nice I just wear the boots.

For day trips from layover camps on warm days or to go out fishing I use my Keen Newports. I can also wear them in camp if I want.

For in camp I have my Patagonia Maui Moc. It has a great sole for walking around camp, fleece lining for warmth and very light. They are like slippers in camp.

Yes I bring 3 pairs of footwear but for me each serves a necessary purpose.

I where Lacrosse water boots, for a little warmth and I don't like wet feet, I just walk 40 miles in them, there very comfy to me, but I where them alot doing different stuff, but most people hate them, there to bulky for them.

Another fan of La Crosse footwear. In September I like the over-the-calf neoprene. Very comfy. I also bring Crocs for around camp...they are light and dry easily.

...forgot to mention...socks are the key. When I'm wearing the tall boots I wear 2 pair of thin boot liners. I find this prevents hot spots on long portages..

I have the Lacrosse boots as well. I love them but a bit worried about three weeks with them. Got soreness a couple weeks ago doing the Lady Chain in two nights and once doing the Perent River and back on an overnight... back before the burn.

Mine are the Aerohead 3.5MM, work great for shoulder seasons for me.

Where did you get them. I'd like to have a look. Kinda leaning toward Caney Forks with hippies. Got a bonus today otherwise no way. lol.

Are the boots taller than your socks? Do they rub on bare skin that gets irritated? If so, maybe wearing a lightweight baselayer tight might help - kind of like a liner sock does.

I looked at them at Cabelas and tried them on there, then bought them on line way cheaper.
