3 feet from the tent? Although a highlight, I'm not sure I would have been a fan of it being that close.

Also, how were the portages during late may? I am looking into Heritage next May?

Shell Lake is a favorite. You got the island site we were hoping to get but it was taken. I have chilly memories of a very cold and windy front that come through the days we were there. Thanks for your report.

Hey Walleye,

How was the portage from Pauness to Shell...in particular the beaver dam 2/3rds of the way through? Were you able to walk it, or did you have to load the canoes back up and float?

Thanks.

Going in Sunday. I'm ready to go. Of course my son had to volunteer to work for someone Saturday night so now we are hitting the road at 2 am Sunday morning. Kids... Drive you nuts if you let em. Once we're in the bush, it's all good.

Portages were good but a little wet since we had recent rains during that time.

We went there two years ago. The portage to Shell although long is fairly flat. It was busy thouge with groups moving through in both directions. As we left con island a group was waiting to use it!
