Anyone have any good hunts coming up this fall? I have a cow elk tag in Wyoming so I'll be heading out that way in October. I don't think I'll do much bird hunting this fall. It's not the same without watching a dog work. I'm hoping to get a new golden puppy this fall but my wife is still really bummed out about what happened with Curly Joe so I'm not sure If I will get her approval.

I'll be going up to BWCA looking for walleyes and pike early Oct. Might bring a shotgun up in case there are any geese, ducks, grouse, or rabbits/hares to bag. Surf and turf trip.
I've been looking at hunting out West. Are you doing a public land elk hunt out there? My sister just moved to Colorado and I know they sell OTC tags there but I know they get a lot of crowds. I'm familiar with the preference point idea in most of the states out there for a draw, but I'm wary of applying for a tag and getting one in a zone where it's mostly private land.

TallMatt- I hunt on public land but my brother lives out there and has elk fever pretty bad, so I am semi-guided I guess. I think Colorado does a decent job of spreading their seasons out to avoid big crowds in the woods. The zone I am hunting in this year in WY has a cow season before the general season so I will be able to hunt while they are still calling and not being chased all over the woods. Although there are advantages to hunting when there are lots of hunters in the woods moving the elk.
Be cautious, once you start elk hunting it is all you want to do.

I'll be up to the usual pheasant, deer and a few local ducks and geese. I'm really hoping to squeeze in a trip to Devils Lake, ND to hunt diver ducks out of a layout boat. It's been a couple years since I've been able to get out there and I sure do miss it.

Sounds like a fun hunt. That snake doesn't look like it wanted to be messed around with.
