I also liked the show. The premise was to drop off the contestants alone in remote spots of Vancouver Island. Given scant resources, they were to live off the land and cobble together some shelter. They were given a PLB and a crew would come get them if they wanted to be retrieved.
The last man left would win $500,000. There were ten participants, all men, and the first lasted less then a day.
The last few contestants lasted over 50 days, existing on grubs, mussels, mice, seaweed, etc.
The winner lasted 56 days I believe. Although physically challenging, the deprivation was hardest on their psychological health. They all were a little "bushy" to say the least.

I set a goal of losing 10 lbs. this year. I only have 15 left to lose.

Don't know much about the show except my Dad wanted me to watch it with him. Finally did last week and it was the last episode. I didn't like it- brought back bad memories as I watched the last 2 guys struggle to deal with it. Their emotions appeared real.

The wife and I binge watched it over 3 nights via on-demand. I thought it was awesome and she enjoyed it.
In episode 2 I called the winner, but would have never guessed that the kid who came in second would have lasted that long.

Nope, not this time. First "Reality" show that was "Reality" IMHO? Couldn't blame some of the guys for "Bailing" when they did. This was tough and I really liked all 4 of the guys who toughed it out the longest.
On a different note, a friend of mine lives near the "Frontier" family, the Kilchers in the reality show "Alaska, the Last Frontier." My friend, Brad, says they live closer to a grocery store than I do (LOL)!

Love The Last Alaskans! Every time I watch that show, I think "Man . .I want to live there" . .then, by the time it's over, I think . ."No, I'm actually glad I don't live there, lol".
My wife and I watched Alone. She doesn't really camp much and I often go out camping/hiking/fishing alone. At first she kept saying stuff like "You'd love this, right"? Ha . .NO! I do love solo camping but I like bringing food with me .. and coming home when I'm done! I have no interest in sitting out in the woods alone, starving and going bonkers, lol.
Same thing with Naked and Afraid . .several people I know have told me they figured I would be up for something like that. Again . .HA! I hope I never am hungry enough that a grub, mouse or dead bird tastes good.
Seems like there was really 2 games in Alone. The first one was the easy one - get your shelter, water and food figured out. The second one, "try not to go bonkers", was definitely the tougher one.
Great show - I hope they don't do a second season, though. If they do, I bet somebody will go 100+ days . .and that's just not necessary, lol.

After few episodes, Alone started to creep me out...every one of few that remained seemed to be losing their minds at times...what was quite interesting was the sense of humor some of them showed in the first few days or week...these were the ones who lasted the longest as well...
As for Naked and Afraid, it was interesting to watch the personal dynamics between the contestants causing some to flame out. What seemed totally unrealistic to me was that even at the end of their 20 or 40 days they still walked around barefoot over rough terrain....that would not happen in real-life...your feet would be torn apart...or was walking barefoot one of the rules of the game?...
