I started winter camping in about 1988 and than few people hot tented it. Hot tenting really has grown and refined. Myself I will stick with cold camping for now and a little lighter tripping.

With an ultralight tent and ti stove it is really hard to consider cold camping again. I don't even want to cold camp in spring or fall anymore.

I do both depending on the distance I have to travel in. I have a -40 bag and 2-person cold tent for the long trips.

How much extra weight do you add for going HOT.

The last tent/stove combo that I made comes in at 10lbs, 4oz.
That's a two man tent, center pole, stakes and guy lines, sewn in ground sheets, stove, stove pipe and firewood bag. Not as light as any summer tent but worth the extra weight to me. Note that this is a sil/poly tent. I would/can use it in winter, but it is nothing like a canvas tent.

Hot tent for sure.

In the past it depended on the distance I was traveling. But with my new Ti setup I can't justify skipping a couple lbs for the advantages of a hot tent. Even though we really only use the stove for a couple hours at night before we go to sleep and maybe an hour in the morning it is nice to have on those extra cold days.
