Anyone know if Ram lake is accessible by car? I've heard they don't plow the road. We haven't had much snow down here in Brainerd. Just wondering if I can make it up that road to go winter camping.

The road to Ram is typically not plowed in the winter. That said, sometimes you can make it all or halfway down it (Brule Rd?) with 4 Wheel drive early in the winter season before it becomes a snowmobile trail. My guess is that by now it is a snowmobile trail with parking just off the gunflint trail. Hope that helps. Good Luck!!

I wondering if there's not much snow if I can just drive down the snowmobile trail? It is a road. Would that be frowned upon?

Yes. If it is a groomed snowmobile trail you will make many enemies by driving down it.

Forest service in Grand Marais could tell you if it is open with active logging going on. Last year the road was snow bound and vechile traffic would of been difficult.

I don't think it is part of a groomed trail area. I think they have got enough snow vechile traffic may be difficult. Check with the local people.

Well I don't feel like coming back from a long winter camp to slashed tires. I'll ask a local bait shop on my way up.
