I would like to go snowshoeing the first weekend in March. Is there a website or anywhere I can find out the ice conditions??

I wouldn't count on a website. Talk to the locals. Usually, bait shop dealers and outfitters in the area (if open) are good sources of current information.

Plan on running into slush at that time of year. It would be a good idea to bring ice claws which you can find a do it yourself guide on making them at the MN DNR website. Just google Mn DNR ice conditions. At least you will be prepared if you are wearing those.

Ice is never 100% safe so I think asking locals if very helpful as Schweady pointed out. Being prepared is your best insurance and using good judgement.
