I will have a Sarah Lake permit for Sunday 9/4 and am doing 13 nights. Here's what I'm looking for - someone to share a bunkhouse at LaTourelles on Sat the 3rd. Share a tow to PP and then we can camp together as long as we see fit to. I just thought I'd throw it out there because I have to pay a 2 person minimum on the room and the tow so would save some money if I could share. Plus it sounds interesting to me and 13 nights will be my longest solo so company would be very welcome. I'll be with my dog who is no problem whatsoever. Ideally we camp together for 3-5 nights then separate. I want to do this because I love both having company and also doing a true solo.

My tentative route goes like this. PP through North Bay to somewhere around Isabella or Side Lake for night one. Day two go west through Mcintyre to Earl (Fishhook) where I plan to layover and fish for trout.

After that I'd like to go north through Brent to Conmee to layover and fish for walleye. Then east to Marj, Hurlburt, Keewatin, then south to Silence (through Reid not Agnes). Then to Bayley Bay before paddling out on the 17th.

A larger group would be fine too. Also, I'm 56 and should be in good shape. Gonna work out before this one. I've done the route to Earl before and it's not bad at all except for the 2 Side Lake portages which are big hills. I've never been on a lot of the route after this.

Any questions or ideas are welcome.

For some reason I can't edit the original post. I've decided to skip Conmee and go directly to Marj from Earl via northern McIntyre.

This whole route is the kind of trip I've always wanted to do. Off the beaten path with at least 4 layovers to fish and explore. It gives me a whole lot of motivation to be in the best shape of my life.

So if someone or even a group wants to join me and my border collie for part of this route I'm all ears.

Hey Tom,
It kills me that I can't go with you on this trip. I don't have the time from work as my trip this year is the 1st week of June on the Gunflint.Plus I promised the wife & kid to spend time with them (for once) ;/
My brother who I go with annually, doesn't think it's worth it to go into Quetico, but rather stay on the US side. I however, am of the opinion that the fishing is probably better(bigger fish too) in the Q, and seeing/fishing unfamiliar areas intrigues me.
Hopefully you will find someone, or a group to join you for this trip, and if there's an opening with you next year to go to the BW or the Q, I'd like to take you up on your offer.

TomT,
I just thought Id pist here as well to express interest altnough Ive been in touch by email. Ill keep the third on the calendar and see how the end of summer shapes up. So far it's looming open abd this trip for at least the first 3-5 daya "co-solo" look possible.

Let's do it. I'm all set to go, just need to get in shape and dehydrate some food. What kind of route are you doing? I think there's only 2 Sarah Lake permits per day. Also, have you ever camped on Earl Lk.? Going to Earl is something I would love to do but it takes me west of my route. I'm not sold 100% on Earl for that reason but I could be easily swayed into going there. I hear it's beautiful and remote.

Otherwise I would head north up McIntyre to spend a night or two before going to Marj. If I go this way I would have time to explore Joyce which holds a fascination with me. (Fish tales and unused old campsites)

TomT,

Route is open but I would be inclined to hit Burt to Joyce for the fishing and perhaps drop into the Cairn - Sark - Keefer chain for the same reason. Your route through McIntyre is enticing but I need to look at a map to see what's reasonable --- at most I'm guessing I'll have between 5 to 7 days. I've never been into Earl and I'll need to find it first on a map to make sure! Most of that area of the park in fact all the way to Argo is 'heart of darkness' for me and I'll need a couple of trips to explore those lakes. This is step one.

Right now that time frame is open so I'll stay in touch on this thread and the other site as we get closer to the time.

Hi Tom, long time bwca guy never quetico guy, Pete here. I have been interested and curious about quetico for a while. Never even spent much time looking at maps yet. But, a group solo where I could go for a few days then break off intrigues me. Does the Q require everyone to have separate permit in this circumstance? Where does tow take you? Is this area difficult to navigate? I have run across portages that are difficult to find before. Many questions. Have not been able to link emails since site change. Can you link mine? I might buzz down to quad cities wing for a few hours. You going to that? I will watch for your response. Pete

Tom, I guess it's not going to work for a quetico trip. My wife wants to spend a few days together that week. ( no dear, I am not rolling my eyes) very slight chance I might get up to bw for 2 or 3 days. :(

That's ok, maybe in the future.
