Very interesting report. What books were you reading on this trip? I solo also but don't think I could ever convince myself to triple portage. I'll be doing 13 nights in Sept. so I enjoyed reading your take on a long solo.
The added history bits at the end of each day was a nice twist. My guess is you're in education. Thanks for the post.

No, not in education just introverted. I don't recall bringing a book on this trip though I usually do and then do very little reading. Going solo and staying on the move keeps me very busy, the triple portage thing doesn't help either! I'm going to try to cut it down to a double this year. I listen to NPR and buy dvds from The Teaching Company a lot and my interests have moved from subject to subject over the years so that's how I picked up much of my trivia. Thanks for the response -David S.

Thanks for an interesting solo trip report complete with philosophical musings and many nice pictures. I have been on many parts of your route on various trips and it brought back many memories and a desire revisit those places. And it fueled a desire to see the parts I haven't traveled yet. I hope your letter ends up being interesting and helpful to Mariel as well.

I really enjoyed it. Some good insight most I agree with and some I do not but that is the way of things. Some of it funny at least as I took it. I do envy the long fall trip, one day maybe. For now most of my trips are 4-5 days.

I enjoyed reading your trip report. I was up there solo (on crooked) 1 or 2 days before you. I enjoy hearing your musings on humanity and nature- and the 'old man wisdom'.
Thankyou for sharing.
