Hi: I need a new GPS which I can use for multiple sports. I need to use it on my bicycle handlebar for use in long distance races. I need to be able to download waypoints for wilderness navigation. It needs to be light and have decent battery life. I have narrowed the available options down to a Garmin ETREX 20X.

Your opinions are valuable to me as I have limited GPS experience. What do you think?

Thanks!!

I have setup a few eTrex 20's for friends, very nice units that will do everything that units costing 2 or 3 times more can do. eTrex 20X adds better screen resolution, more memory.
If I was looking for a compact adaptable GPS, that unit is on the top of the list.

Hi Ken: What other units would be on the short list?

My preferences run, buttons instead of touch screen, ability to add maps and overlays, paperless Geocaching, lots of memory, chip based external memory, ability to display color aerial photos and custom maps.

I currently own Delorme PN40se, and PN60. When I decide to add another I'd go with a GPSMAP 64st, second choice is the eTrex 20x.

Did own and compared an 62st with my PNs, very similar performance and feature set. About as good as can be found in handhelds. GPS performance has peaked and most all new features involve wireless data sharing, and potential sat messaging.

I'll second this, along with the list of feature preferences. I've owned a 62st since they came out and coveted the newer 64st for a while until I matched up features and found that there was very little new stuff added and none of it was something that I absolutely needed. My recommendation: the 64st or a previously-owned 62st. (wink wink)
