Was wondering if anybody has info on Magie Lake off of That Man Lake? All I've found are just a few mentions of it but not much. Is the bushwack to it challenging? I'll be on a solo so I don't want anything too harry. Also, is there a good campsite spot on the lake? Any info would be helpful, thanks in advance!!

I been there in the winter so it was very doable than. Summer bush wacking will take a little work.

It is a mystery lake and a pretty little lake so I will leave it at that. The Man chain has so many little lakes to check out.

Sorry about more info but done exploring on little lake in the BWCA and Quetico for years. Some ended up being big slough holes other nice little fishing gems.
I usually walked to the small lakes first before portaging in.

No need to apologize Pinetree, I appreciate the response.

Hats off to anyone who has made this bushwack! I tried this past Memorial day and had to turn back after it got too thick and couldn't find a way through.

You gave it a good effort. Hats off for trying. I was in there one winter.

Sorry for being too late to help for this trip. The easier way in is actually from Sheridan Lake. The map below shows two ways in, but the northern route from That Man (3 bushwhack portages) is a tough one. The southern way in from Sheridan is actually pretty easy if you can find the first "portage" between Sheridan and the unnamed lake. The second portage from "unnamed" to Magie is fairly obvious, though a bit sloppy wet.

Nice camp spot and surprises I'll leave up to the traveler.

Better late then never! That makes a lot of sense now looking at your map. The route I tried via That Man, I was able to make it through the first two bushwhacks, but the third was crazy. It wasn't exactly an easy choice to turn back at that point, but it was very thick and looked to have a few recently fallen trees, I couldn't see a way to get the canoe through there.

Thanks for the info QuietWild! It'll have to wait until next year, but I'll give your route a go then!

Yes, that northern route from That Man has one particularly bad spot toward the end. I'm guessing that's what you may be referring to. As I recall, it was a large area of tangled downfall that one has to literally climb over and through. It is by far the hardest part of that route.

Good luck with next time. I hope the Sheridan route hasn't closed up too bad. It's been some years since I was through there.

Done a winter route from That Man about 0.7 miles southwest of your route and no problem at all,but this was years ago before blowdown storms.
