Welkin Lake, WCPP 2013. This lake is smoldering toast this morning. The current fire has burned about 200 sq miles so far.I was planning on revisiting this area in Sept. Not sure now.
This was one of those memorable sunrises.

There aren't any old forests in WCPP. Fire is part of the ecology. But the "snowdown" they had in 2013 probably contributed to how fast it spread and the size.
Interestingly... there was a 2009 fire on the eastern half of this lake, this campsite was on the border of that fire. This fire stopped its progression at the 2009 fire boundary.
This is what the 2009 area looked like last summer. Similar to what you look at across the lake every day but mostly jackpine.

Very nice. What's the story on this shot?"
this is a young boy bear that hung around all last fall, kind of in the same area, eating clover and whatever. he's wary of humans, loud noises and traffic coming down the road. he's also been hanging out with the horses in the pastures eating grasses and whatever is growing. the horses keep an eye on him but he hasn't been threatening. just worried what might happen when the summer season picks up and there are more people around... hope he is smart enough to hang out in the woods more in the daylight hours, and is sneaky after dark. he actually looks pretty good for just coming out of hibernation.

That is Jigsaw Lake in the background, isn't it? "
That is the spot.
