I saw these fold-away tiedowns here, and thought that it wouldn't be too difficult to make a pair. It wasn't.
The cost was free as I used some webbing and brass grommets I already had on hand. I had thought about sewing a few bar tacks in to make it stronger, but once bolted down it's plenty strong. No more hunting under the front end for tie points!

Man you used grommets? You did the deluxe system, I simply heated a bolt and stuck it through the webbing. FRED
Grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked, the good fourtune to remember the ones do, and the eyesight to tell the differance.

I didn't even bother with heating & poking. I just sewed box stitches above & below where the hole was going to be & poked an xacto knife enough so I could force the bolt through. Looks good, I like the yellow!
Last set I made REI sold me tubular nylon. I get the sense they are basically indestructible.

I have done FRED's method for 20+ years on 5 or 6 different vehicles.
I also use a washer to help secure it to the metal under the hood.
Easy to stow away when not being used and pull out when needed.
Takes 10 minutes to do and lasts as long as you own the car.
