I thought I'd start a thread on some of the must have flies, since there seems to be a few questions on what to bring.
1) Clouser Minnows; chartreuse, white, black, brown. Sizes 1/0-8. 2) Wooly Buggers; black, olive, white. Sizes 2-8.
3) Bunny Leeches; black, purple, olive. Sizes 5/0-4.
4) Deerhair or cork poppers; frog, white, black, yellow. Sz 2-4.
5) Cork sliders; chartreuse and red works best for me. Size 2-6
6) Dahlberg diver, including the Megadiver for the toothsome ones.
Any and all colors are great for this one. Sizes 2/0-2.
7) Foam eye leeches (also known as booby flies). Fish them on a
sinking line like a floating lindy rig. Olive, black, yellow.
Sizes 2-6.

This is just the basics, and only covers the big 3 (smallies, walleyes and swamp sharks). Anyone else care to add?

That's going to get the job done. Nothing to add here.

I would definitely bring some kind of crayfish pattern too.

So true. I go with a marabou/leather strip claw model with double dumbell eyes to keep it low and slow

Also, it might be a good idea to bring some big mayflies (hex nymphs, big brown drake spinners, etc.) Sometimes if there is a big hatch going on, it can be hard to get them to eat anything else. If you can match it though, you will be the only guy on the lake catching them. Good luck buddy!

I just tied some of the foam eye leeches. It seems to me that it would be more of a floating fly then something that would sink. Did you add any weight to the fly or are you just using the sinking line to take it into the subsurface area?

No weight on the fly. I either fish it with a big splitshot on a long leader or weight free on a sink tip. It's great in areas of small snaggy cover like rock, wood or weeds. On the sinking line I use a shorter leader, as the fly will float as high as the leader allows.

I was thinking of trying one tonight with a little bit of weight added to the hook shank, and see if it would sink just a bit. That way I would not have to put a sink tip leader on. Have you ever tried that?

I would add suspending flies like a Murdoch Minnow or a Clouser Suspender.

They are fun to fish slowly with floating or intermediate line. You can walk the dog under water if you use a loop knot. With some 13 pound Surlfon, they make good pike flies also.
