      Dell Lake Campsites??

A few years ago we paddled through Dell Lake (north of North Bay) on our way to Kahshahpiwi and it seemed like a very nice small lake with big pines. There were several possible campsites on Dell shown on the PCD that I had marked on my map, and I recall that one or two of them looked decent from out in the middle of the lake, but we didn't really investigate.

Now I'm thinking that camping on Dell might be a nice change of pace on an upcoming trip to Kahsh and wondered if anyone has actually camped there or checked out the campsites. Any info would be appreciated. Feel free to email if you prefer that.

Thanks in advance!

HoHo

Hey I'm just bouncing this question back to the top in case anyone knows the answer but didn't see it before. Thanks!

I have paddled through there many times but quite honestly do not remember a campsite there. We are usually high-balling ourselves to get to Sarah so I guess have never looked.
Another option is a site for a stop on the way to Kash is just at the mouth of Lost Bay on North Bay. I have always liked that spot and have used it as our last night stop on our way back home. A little early to stop on your first day. But not far out of your way to Kash. Tucked out of the way. Normally no one else is on Lost Bay. Wide open site with a good view and easy landing.
Or the unique high site on Yum Yum, also a different type of site I like. That way you are fresh in the am for Yum Yum portage.
Sorry I can't give you any info on Dell.

Thanks GC, it's helpful to know you haven't seen a sight on Dell, it makes it more likely we will stop on North Bay - and the entry to Lost Bay or in Lost Bay would be the likely spot. We will take a look when we pass through Dell for future reference.

Where is the high site on Yum Yum? A PCD reference would be great.

Thanks!

601 is the spot. Easy to miss when you paddle by. The site is not used much but I have always liked it.

We stayed at 11Y (might have been 11D, but I think it was Y) in 2012, on the NW shore. A little slope-y but not bad. Enough level tent sites for a group of 6. Interesting terraced terrain on the hillside behind the site. Nice camping on a small lake like that.

Thanks for the info, Daunier! That northwest shore is where it looked like there could be one or even two sites when we paddled through some years ago, but I wasn't sure if they were really campable. We may well be staying there tomorrow night now . . .

Hey Flaxman long time no see! You know we normally breeze through Kahsh and make it to Joyce or Marj on the first day, of course. :)

Ho, Ho. I am curious as to where you camped on your way to Piwi, with Piwi.

Weird, I thought you asked that question a couple days ago, GC, and I answered it. But I don't see those posts here . . .

As it turned out, we paddled and portaged to Kahshahpiwi the Lake with Kahshahpiwi the dog in one day via the Isabella/Side route so we didn't camp along the way. On the way in I did something to my wrist making it kind of hard to paddle, so after a rest day on Kahshahpiwi we took three days to paddle out the way we came in, instead of the much longer route ending at Mudro that he had planned. On the way out, we camped on the Unnamed Lake east of Side with the rock dome campsite, and then on Lost Bay. Back at Prairie Portage, Jason radioed to get us a tow and also offered a refund of a night's worth of camping fees since I mentioned we were leaving a day early. So the trip turned out different than planned but still lots of fun. We enjoyed paddling and camping the first few days with banksiana (who also graciously backtracked with us to the Unnamed Lake in case my wrist made it harder to paddle out than we thought - when it was clear that we could make it out on our won, he continued his own trip).

Is the wrist ok? Just a sprain I hope. Any current pics of piwi? I'm just wondering how big she got.

Thanks for asking Tom - the wrist is doing pretty good. I guess maybe it was like a sprain but extremely mild. On the day we paddled into Kahshahpiwi, I could not open a Nalgene bottle in camp, and the next day when we hung out there was similar, but then it started feeling better. Since we needed to paddle out of the wilderness, I was being extremely careful at that point, so I didn't test to see if I could paddle stern for a few miles or anything like that. We've been home almost a week now and it's doing pretty good, I'm going to the gym etc., still a bit sensitive but I'm not worried about it. Still, it was kinda scary when it happened.

Piwi is a big girl! About 70 pounds. Here's a picture from the end of a trip with a friend last year -

Wow, she looks healthy. She is a very lucky doggie to be picked by you guys. :)

My girl just went through a very tough time hearing fireworks for the last 10 days or so. It gets more and more around my neighborhood. Big ones too. Our neighbors spare no expense and it really frightens her to the point she was cowering next to the toilet panting for hours.

What's that old Animals song - "We got to get out of this place ....."

That's tough about the fireworks. For whatever reason, we have been lucky that Piwi is not afraid of fireworks or thunder. We have a surprising number of fireworks going off right near us around the 4th, but they bother me more than Piwi.
