Anyone know what campsite on McIntyre (misspelled as Mc Entrye lake in the credits) is on the cover of the latest issue of the Boundary Waters Journal? We're heading that way on Friday, July 1 and I'd like to see if that site is free once we get in there. Looks like a cool campsite in the pines.

I was going to say that from the picture, it looks like a site on the mainland on the north end of the lake where the channels split east and west, M2 on the PCD. We camped there in 2008 and it was great. Even if it's not the same site as on the cover, it's worth keeping in mind. Here's a few pics -

Hmmm. Two different paddling friends emailed me and mentioned the island site on the cover. I got my copy and thought the same thing. I looked again and am not certain. The campsite itself looks right and so does the shoreline in the background. But, upon further review, the shoreline on the right or south side looks a little low since the high rock is not noticeable in the photo. Ho Ho may be correct. One would think I could ID this spot since I have camped at the island site at least 12 different times!

I'm not sure either. It's a pretty close resemblance to the site we stayed at, but looking at one more picture I found with a bit of our tent in it, there seems to be more vegetation along the shore where we stayed than on the cover photo.

And although the shore in the background of the cover photo looks about the right elevation, it wraps around to the left more than I would expect. But you don't know the exact vantage point of that photo.

One of the things that made me think of the site we stayed at (besides the basic open pines look) was that the cover photo seems to be looking down at the tent site from a ridge above - like the one I'm leaning against in one of the pictures I posted before.

Maybe it's neither site. There could be a third one. And a fourth and a fifth. Lots of good camping on McIntyre.

I'm pretty sure that's the big site on the northern island. Beautiful landing and high sitting rock overlooking the long southern half of the lake. I just might stay there again in Sept. I was there in 1988 and 2001.

It was my first spectacular campsite in the BW/Quetico. In '88 I was solo and sitting out on that rock late at night just watching the stars and satellites.

I agree with Tom- I think it is MM, the big south facing site on the north island. Nice location though a very "well-used" site.

One more vote for the south facing island site towards the north end of McIntyre (though there are at least two sites on that island, this is the most noticeable site when traveling McIntyre south to north). I've stayed there and that was my immediate thought when I saw the photo.

Yep--south side, big island, shot last September. The other two shots are heading in via Isabella from North Bay in a low-water year (2011) and the "Goat Portage" between McIntyre and Sarah Sept., 2016.

Congrats on the photos. I see your name in that mag a lot.

Definitely nice pictures! And now that we've confirmed that the site is MM - everyone go there and leave M2 untouched for me. :)

Nice looking campsite. Plenty of trees for hammocks and tarps.
