Thanks for the report, nojo. I thought it would go pretty well for you and it seems that generally was the case other than the portage mishap. It sounds like you had fun exploring the area and just relaxing a little.

I wasn't able to access the pictures with the link, though.

Booker is ok but he's wearing a cone until his leg heals...He over-licked it worrying the bites.

Great to hear how the trip went. We were oh so close to you... on Gaskin while you were on Cross Bay and as you know... on the Trail and in Grand Marais the same day too. We have always wanted to camp on the Cross Bay site but haven't managed it. The only time we went by when it was open, we were set on getting to Long Island for the week and passed it by. The rest of our trips it has been full and we've had to go elsewhere. Great pics! PS Hit send submit too soon... so glad that Booker is on the mend.

It was great to meet you Nola! What a bummer about Booker. Hope he gets well soon. I was able to see the photo album. Looked like a great area and beautiful weather. That canoe sure looked good in those pictures :) Glad it worked ok for you.

I enjoyed reading your report but could not access the photos. I am not on Facebook.

How well I remember those steps on that portage. I remember writing in my own trip report that I thought the people who built that portage must have been giants! They are only helpful if you are about 6 ft. 4 inches tall or else you have long, extremely strong legs!

That campsite on Cross Bay is a nice one. We spent more time there on our trip than we had intended to but it was a pleasant stay. I remember it fondly.

Glad to hear that Booker is recovering.

No, because I'd heard it was not near the river.

I was going over it at the same time as another group. One of their canoes didn't get the message about the portage being farther over from the river and they went on some trail they found there and made it through, but then came back when they realized their group was elsewhere (and they weren't sure if the water they made it to was the same water their group was on...these were teenagers...the dads were on the real portage). But I was interested to hear they actually made it through.

The pictures SHOULD be able to be viewed by anyone who has the link. So I'm not sure why they can't be seen.

Here is a clickable link

here is what message I get from FB about the album: You can use this link to share this photo album with anyone, even if they don't have a Facebook account. Anyone with the link will be able to see your photo album.

So if this doesn't work...sorry. I tried. :)

Edited: I tried the link without being logged in to facebook. Click "not now" in the box that pops up, and then maybe you can only see square pics of the pictures and not open them up. Oh well.

Haha, I missed the Ham to Cross Bay portage and made it an adventure. :) You did good, sounds like you made good choices and made a good trip of it. The dog vs bugs was the hardest part of bringing a dog. But never a regret. Congrats on a trip well taken. You need to try an ultralight boat!

This link worked for me. Thanks. It was more fun to see the photos.
