I have an Agnes permit and I will be soloing, starting at PP on 9/14. I would like to get water level updates if anyone goes this way between now and then. Thanks in advance! --Goose

I talked to a outfitter at Nym lake yesterday and they said water levels through out the Q are normal for this time of year. I'll be up in mid August and will post a update.

Goose, are you going to Agnes the first night? I'll be coming down Agnes looking to camp on East or Jeff Lake around the 14th or 15thfor a layover. Then I'll be heading through the creek west to North Bay and probably camping around Sunday Bay for my last night. Look for a solo red canoe with a dog. I'll share a site if you need one.

TomT, I hope to camp in N Bay on the 14th. Not sure about after that. Are you pretty confident the arm of West before the Jeff portage will be paddleable? I have heard it can get pretty low. Will certainly keep and eye out for a red solo and it would be great to meet and chat. --'Goose

I was going to make my decision based on what my outfitter and the ranger tell me before I go in. I want info on that waterway and also the Isabella creek. If you're going to take the Jeff creek route going east we have a good chance of passing each other if the water levels are good. What will you be drivin'?

Me too. Will be using one of CCO's Wenonah Encounters, plain vanilla. --Goose

Also wondering...if the water in West IS low, are you better off going from West to Jeff, or Jeff to West? Thinking maybe that coming off the portage from Jeff you would see where others have carried on to get to paddleable water on West? I will be using the S-chain either coming or going, but hopefully not both. --Goose

I'd say you would be better off going from Jeff to West in low water. Two reasons. First, the landing for the portage between the creek and the unnamed pond west of Jeff is pretty obscure at the creek side. So if you are coming from Jeff, you don't have to worry about finding it. Second, the creek flows into West, so you will be going downstream if you are traveling from Jeff to West. I think this is an advantage in high or low water. I've done it once each way, but if this is your first time and you're going to loop anyway, I'd do it that way.

Thanks HoHo, always appreciate your comments. That's my preferred loop anyway.

Just got back, went from Agnes to East to Jeff to West. All were nice medium easy portages. The creek from the little lake at the bottom of Jeff to West was very easy. We were in a 17' aluminum and floated right through. Two small beaver dams so we had to get out twice but we slipped right through. The portage from Est to Jeff had some amazing old pine trees. It was a really nice portage. Top to bottom East to West was a really nice paddle. Mid September should be a colorful one.

Hey goose, I couldn't figure out how to email you, but I was going to ask you for a few fishing tips in the B chain, cuz a couple buddies and I are going to base camp it third week of September. The only plan I have now is to fish below all the rapids and falls throughout the chain.

That would be my tip. That and fish any narrows you find. Like the narrow section of upper Bud, for example. Try around any small islands also. --Goose

It was a great trip. Here are a couple photos of the creek. Plenty of water. I have never been up there in September but would imagine the colors are spectacular.

No moose. At least none that we saw. We were not the quietest, so if any where there were probably scared them off.

Nice photos...I'll be in that area on a solo trip in a couple weeks. Any chance you looked backward as you paddled through the creeks....I want to get to Agnes by going in from West, but I've heard finding the landings going west to east can be hard to find??....

We did look back and I don't think you will have any trouble. They were all easy to find and not that difficult. The hardest one to locate was from Agnes to East. There is a big fall down blocking the landing.

Paddled thru on 9/21, with no problems. In fact the water in West Lake and the feeder were higher than in many other area lakes. Beautiful area too. --Goose

water levels are above normal in much of the canoe area now.

I originally planned to take this route from Agnes to North Bay but I opted instead to go to the Meadows portages and into Sunday Lake. I was pretty pooped from fighting a headwind down Agnes and did not want to fight the same on North Bay and then Bayley Bay. I laid over on Sunday Lake and it was real nice.

You get a south wind coming out Burke lake can get windy also. Had to sit a few hours at the north end of Burke waiting for the wind to slow down.

Yep. The last thing I want at the end of a trip is to be windbound. Being on Sunday Lake I have the option of taking the creek to Poacher Lk. and then the long portage into Inlet Bay back to PP.
