I was able to put the finishing touches on my latest projects today. Light weight nylon collapsible buckets, sturdier ice bucket and Nalgene bottle cozy.
e light weight bucket has a draw string "lid" and an attached stuff sack. The Sturdy bucket has two layers of water proof fabric and the Nalgene cozy is made of material with water proof outer with laminated inner fleece/foam.

The light weight "bucket" was made of a heavier water proof coated sil-nylon. The heavier bucket was made with a water-proof sil-nylon lining and a Gortex knock-off outer. The cozy is a special fabric that is a waterproof outer and a foam/fleece laminate inner. I did not add extra insulation in this cozy - In my pot or Jet Boil cozies, I use Thinsulite but they get kind of bulky.

Awesome, you should go online with these products.
My wife can sew. She keeps all our gear in tip top shape. We have toted her industrial sewing machine with us through all our travels/moves.
I play music, she sews, we both love the outdoors. A perfect marriage, (Mostly) ;-)

Camp bucket Grandma L let me try out!
Holds as much or more water than the SeaToSummit, no leakage, works very good as a camp stuff container. The handles are not long enough to fit well over picnic table boards. The opening is too small for washing in, and a bit difficult to pour from.
Thanks Grandma L, for letting me try them out!

Grandma L - How does the water taste after a day's storage in the sil-nylon? and, have you thought of doing a similar water bag with a roll-top closure like a dry bag? This, in a 5-gallon capacity with a fast, reliable spigot, is my Holy Grail.
(Closest I've come is the Innate Aqueduct Water Transporter, but I seem to have purchased the last of that model that exists on Earth.)

I can say the water does not take any odd flavor from the bag. Far as the specific mods go it is up to the maker Grandma L or you to personalize it for your use. Personally the need for a sealed opening is not needed, the spigot would be particular to use and easily accomplished. But I do not make them.

Mostly agree. Sealed top is nice when filling them in the middle of the lake from a canoe and then transporting to camp. Less debris, pollen, etc and a bit cooler temp. From experience: hanging filled and open bags from the thwarts produces the inevitable slosh-loss, not to mention possible off-balance moments.

Grandma L: "Butthead - thanks for the feedback - I have taken your suggestions and am working on a new model. I should have a couple of examples at the wing night. We can chat then. "
Grandma L,
Did you have any luck with an improved version of your buckets?
I've got one of the heavy rubber coated canvas ones that I use for washing dishes. It would be nice to be able to replace it with a lighter DIY one.

Well, yes, I did make light weight buckets - actually a couple of models. The one in the pic that has a gathered top and strap was first. With a full circle gathered to a smaller top there are no seams to leak. It works well if you have a canoe yoke end to hang it on in the canoe and a tree while in camp. My second on is a combination of the circle gathered top used as lining for a more traditional bucket shape that stands pretty well on its own.
I generally use pretty simple waterproof ripstop and poly web straps. Not hard - just time consuming.

The single layer works - does tend to sort of "sweat" a little but not really leak. I did an outer layer to protect the sil-nylon since it is so thin. If you weren't all the way over in Nebraska, we could get together for a project day.

Wow, an old thread comes to life, sorry I didn't respond a year or three ago. I was in Alaska at the time so might have gotten busy with fires. I know we had one on our district around that time. It went for a couple thousand acres.
I play Guitar, Mandolin, Blues Harp and Piano, I also tune pianos.
What music do I play, pretty much anything.
Blues, country, classic rock, religious and classical. I've also writen a few classiclal pieces for the piano but, they are pretty basic.

Thanks Grandma L. A little sweating doesn't bother me. I might have to sew up two of them...one for wash and one for rinse. Two of them look like they'll pack up smaller than my current bucket.
I wish I would of discovered sewing a long time ago. It's so cool to be able to make your own custom gear for a fraction of the cost of retail. I always thought sewing was some kind of black magic that only my Mom and Grandma could do. My sewing isn't pretty but so far it's been functional.
