So.. I am nearly 99.9% sure I'm bringing my DSLR into our Late Summer/Early Fall trip this year! I'm so excited. The past 2 trips I've just brought my iPhone6... though I did bring my DSLR on our Labor Day - day trip into Mudro where i caught magnificent photos...

I think I'm going to just bring my bag with everything in zip locks... I know this isn't ideal. I know Ken - you'd recommend me getting a pelican, and in the future, I'm sure I will... but for now... I'm just excited to bring my Nikon into the wilderness....

Should I bring my Tripod? I think I might since it'll pack in the pocket....

Definitely bring the tripod, if nothing else it will hold your camera for you between shots. :)

I practically can't take a photo without a tripod so I'm a bit biased.

I do like Pelican cases, but they are not the only way. I cheat and have 2 used Pelican cases, 1300 and a 1400, both under $30 apiece. Just do not do what I did and forget to check the shipping. The 1400 cost $25 but was shipped from Israel at a cost of $60, OOOPPPSSS!
A small tripod is a bunch of fun, allowing some very interesting photos.
Ziplocks may work out, I do not trust them though. But I have a pile of roll closure waterproof bags, when I take a soft case I use one as a case liner.
Did you insure your camera?

Take your tripod. You won't regret the extra weight, and you'll get photos you wouldn't have been able to capture without it.

I guess it all depends on who is going to carry all the stuff. :) I tripod is nice to have and gives you a lot more things you can do around camp where you have lots of time to set up shot.

I'say to go for it. I have a pelican case, but actually considered leaving it home for a trip next week. They are bulky and heavy. Opening them up takes a while; the shot you saw may be gone by the time you have your camera.

I decided in the end to take it, but I think that just using waterproof bags is a reasonable alternative.

In the future if you should decide to get a Pelican case, get the optional TrekPak divider system. I just go it for my Pelican case this summer and I couldn't be more pleased with it. I literally couldn't fit one more thing in my case with the Pick n Pluck foam but I probably got a third more room after I installed the TrekPak. Money well spent.

Just went dayhiking on the SHT, and left the DSLR at home. Now I can kick myself for forgetting it. But my trip is coming up, and I'm so pumped to get some shots!

I'm going to bring my tripod. I have a backpack case, and will DOUBLE zip lock my lens/body etc. My tripod will slip in nice. Our portages aren't too bad, and we'll be base camping.

Wooo Hoo! I'll have to share what I capture once I get back.

Last time I had my DSLR in the area was at Voyagers, and I caught the most spectacular sunsets my camera has EVER had the pleasure of capturing!

Plus I gave up "amateur" portrait/wedding photography, so now its all about shots for ME!!!!!!!!

I would be cautious about ziplocks. They can keep moisture out but they also keep moisture in and they are not completely waterproof. For a first try, take a minimal kit of body and 1-2 lenses. Pelicans are great but heavy and bulky. A dry bag, even the really light ones should suffice but they are just large baggies in the end. So make sure you open them when you are not in the canoe to dry out the air.

I would take a tripod if it is light. Odds are, based on what you have said so far, that your tripod is fairly heavy. I would not take a 7 pound tripod. Consider a little Joby or a cheap MePhoto for basic use.

The fancy new-fangled ziplocs with the zipper-like pulls all leak badly. The old fashioned standard kind are great though - but you have you closed them right!

Husband got a HUGE dry bag.... fits my entire kit inside, and keeps everything super light. Will portage by hand, so I can keep in the bow, if there is a photo that looks keen on the eyes....

Will definitely open up as soon as I get to camp as not to keep things stuffy however.

I can't wait to share my pictures. I can only HOPE they're a fraction of what I hope they are to be.
