sounds like a great trip in spite of the rain every day. a few questions: did you ever figure out why the USFS "really didn't want you in that PMA" area? Did you camp on Gift or Link? i can't find a site on either of those lakes on a map so just wondered.
usually the dates right after labor day weekend aren't as busy but at least you were able to find camp sites. also, it was a touching tribute to your brother to be on your trip.

Barb said they want to keep the PMA areas as primitive as possible. She said if an article or story comes out, shortly afterwards they get many more requests to enter these areas. I (we) can totally respect her feelings on the matter.
We actually stayed on Fish Lake. There is no "campsites" on any of these PMA lakes except for previous adventurers, that I know of. We were lucky to find the one we stayed at.
Thanks for reading, I just wish I could have figured out how to size and orient the pictures before publishing.

Here's a pic of Gift from the old campsite. As I recall, the portage coming in is near the rock? As you come in, the site is roughly about 10-11 o'clock from the portage.
