In the spring I always hear hooters - can someone more knowledgeable than myself please provide insight

are these spring hooters sooty grouse? dusky grouse? I think they both used to be called blue grouse.

Not to say that it's not possible but I've never heard of anything but ruffed and spruce grouse inhabiting the BWCA area.

I watched an episode of Meat Eater with Steven Rinella where they were hunting sooty grouse or "hooters" in Alaska. It looked like they were having a blast.
