Just got our Q permit acknowledgement. In it is a reminder that all containers must be burable. I understand this is another way to say don't bring cans or bottles but...are they asking us to burn trash? Maybe it is the idea that if there is a forest fire everything burns up rather than leaving a pile of discarded containers (witnessed that in Utah and it is pretty ugly)? Any thoughts?

Call the office. Seems like their way of saying no metal or glass. Would include foil I suspect, and maybe the purpose of what seems to be new wording. Canada doesn't seem to ban open burning and burning plastic.

The Quetico policy is that all trash must be burned or packed out. It is not to be left for a possible forest fire.

I think they figure it will be less trash if they allow people to burn items instead of bags of trash just being left at campsites or back in the woods because people don't want to pack it out.
We usually burn any paper or cardboard we have otherwise I pack out all plastic like ziploc bags and vac seal bags.

We burn all of our paper trash. There is no need to haul around a lot of paper trash. We pack out any of the foil or plastic.

We typically burn everything and comb through fire pit before leaving. Maybe every three or four days.

I usually comb thru the fire pit before I even build a fire to get all of the aluminum foil and other junk out of it.
