Just out for a hike, antlers often found as an extra! Those are Air Force surplus mukluks, $28 off ebay. Added a pair of 9mm wool liners, I like toasty feet!

Hoping for another 2012 this year. This was the first week in April 2012 on South Fowl. It was perfect weather, 50 degree days, 20s at night and very light winds. It was a short but very memorable trip.

is this in the area with all cabins? nice sandy landing! i really like northe and south fowl but when i've been through there we're always in a hurry to get through to east pike. would love to explore more toward where the pigeon river starts.

This is the south side of the island that separates north and South Fowl. There is a very interesting story about all the cabins that are on Fowl Lakes and how they got there. Way too long to tell here....maybe on a wing night. The dam at the end of the lake where the Pigeon River starts is worth a visit.

jaywalker, those phone booths look like they are either in London or a movie set! sounds like you'll get your winter wish soon.
my brother and sis-in-law picked me up this morning, we took a scenic drive to springfield, mn to the meat shop (awesome, BTW!), on our way home we took some back roads along hwy 4 toward ft. ridgely, then the "bottom road", which could be renamed the Soggy Bottom road. lots of flooded fields, most still frozen. apparently there was quite a bit of rain last fall so the MN river flooded in this area. ANYWAY.... here are some geese getting ready for a swim. there were tons of geese and some mallards just soaking up the sun and paddling around the little pond of open water. we also saw a flock of wild turkeys stepping over a dead racoon on the center line. no pics of them... they move fast!

the little stream between kingfisher and ogish (this is looking at ogish). oct 2011.
would be interested to see photos of the current landscape in this area."
That photo leaves me almost speachless. That was always such a pretty portage IMHO, one of my favorites.

Those are some cool looking dams.
This one is the old dam at Florence Lake. It usually is under water but the drought left it exposed again."
that is a very old looking dam! interesting how it's built with board and rocks. where is Florence lake?
"
Mocha, Florence lake is about 100 miles north east of Fresno Calif. in the Sierra's. The last 20 miles is on a 1 lane old blacktop road and takes about 2 hours to travel.

Mocha, you asked about a current picture of the Ogish-Kingfisher creek - this is what I have from September 2016:
Pretty sure this is at the end of the portage on the Ogish side, but my back was to the creek, that's my buddy in the picture. Gives you an idea of the size of the trees.
And this is the east end of that same creek, on the Kingfisher side. The fastest action we had on the trip was in the moving water there.
