Anyone with anything to share about this park? I'm taking the wife & kids on a 4 night paddle campout in July. 4 remote "canoe campsites" which are really just hike/paddle in. Looks to be a nice easy paddle from the main parking lot.
It'll be the wife's & our youngest's first canoe trip. Hopefully it'll be a positive experience that will lead to many more!

It's a nice little park. When I lived in Ft. Wayne, I'd go up there to fish for the day. Usually decent bluegill/crappie fishing with lots of little buck bass to catch. I've heard one of the lakes has stocked trout, but have never caught any. A buddy of mine caught the biggest redear I've ever seen back in the early 90s. I've never camped there, so can't really say anything about the sites.
The lakes have blue-green algae blooms in the summer, so something to think about with the kids if they're younger. There's no way I could have kept mine out of the water when they were little. Yours may be much better behaved though. :)
July may have some low water too that makes it tough to get through some of the water connecting the lakes.

Thanks both. The algae does have me concerned... youngest is 5 and certainly does love playing in the water. It'll be something to keep an eye on, for sure. The canoe campsite landing area looks to be a little swampy, so maybe we'll be able to limit swimming & wading to the beach where there's a showerhouse.

I have paddled here numerous times. It's ok, but not on a par with Sylvania, Big Island, and so on. It's a remote state Park with several small lakes connected by narrow channels, short travel distances. Decent hiking with lots of small hills. Be sure you have your launch permits for each boat, can be bought on site. Take what you need, very little can be bought nearby...

Thanks. I'm starting to think this might be not the right location for a first family canoe trip but it is on my list of places to check out. Maybe when the kids are a little older or with a buddy.
