I look forward to reading next year's 3 generation trip report. I had the opportunity to do a couple of those. Unfortunately my father's knee replacement did not go as well as yours did. We are planning a motor boat trip to LLC this year to make another 3 generation trip happen.

Tony, really nice trip report and a nice video. I've travelled this route a couple of times either soloing or with my eldest son, so the video sure brought out some grest memories. Now be honest didn't you feel bad about your Dad sinking up to his thighs in the mud? A couple of years ago I stepped off a beaver dam onto what I thought was fairly solid ground [the first 2 steps were] and sank one leg clear to my delicate parts. My sons reply was "you ok Dad?" I confirmed I was but needed some minor assistance in getting out, after he got done laughing, he swung the bow over to where I could grab it and joist myself out. Be advised paybacks are so sweet. You have got to get your Dad a BWCA hat, would be much cooler than a Menards hat. In case no one has welcomed you to the board before allow me to be the first. When you flip that new Northwind canoe over and see the scrapes don't think of them as battle scars think of them as memories. Glad you took your Dad and may you enjoy many, many more trips with him. FRED

Nice report and video. I'm glad you are able to have these trips with your father and next year with your father and son - that should be a really special trip.

Great report - you have a great attitude! Say could ya tell me who the artist is for the first tune on your video and the name of the song? That's a good one.

never mine - Okee Dokee Brothers, right?

Fred,

Thanks for the kind words, and I'd love to read up on some of your previous trips. To answer your question, yeah I felt bad when Dad went deep in the muck. I actually crawled over the yoke and thwarts to get to him as fast as I could and he was just sitting there smiling and more worried about not losing his boot than anything. What compounded things was that it was my idea to paddle the Boulder River and do that particular portage so I was feeling pretty guilty. I think you're right about the hat, maybe something with a flying moose would be fitting? Father's Day gift list is growing fast. Thanks.
