no blind, just blind luck! had to hike around the enclosure to get to a spot where i could at least see them! they are not very cooperative! :) they were a couple hundred yards from the fence, it was blowing and snowing so i was trying to steady my camera on the fence wire. just kept pressing the button. i was pretty excited when i saw i captured that special private moment.

joe, i love that area of the PNW. tell me, i see the path coming out of the far woods and along the shore, all the tall peaks... do you ever feel claustrophobic out there? i mean, compared to the BWCW where you are surrounded by water and can see quite a distance...

are you guys on an actual trail? that hillside looks dangerous
"
Oh yes. Trail is narrow but not as dangerous as you might think looking at the picture.

Looking down from top of Rock MT. on one corner of the ranch."
at first i thought it was a golf course in MT, then i enlarged it (and read your description) and now wonder what you have that grazes and keeps that so nice looking!?
i take it the flooding, fires and dam issues are all resolved?

It does kind of look like a golf course! We have range cattle on the property most of the year. They feed it off all summer, that keeps the fire danger down. When it starts raining in the fall everything turns green again. Yes, the floods, dam problems, road issues are all, hopefully, in the past. We can even drive the Subaru out again.

Uncontrolled burn. This was a few years ago, about 1/2 mile south of my cabin. The local farmer tried to burn of some cattails on a very dry windy afternoon. Not sure what he was thinking. I saw the smoke and went to investigate as it was coming my way. I was able to get enough signal with my phone to call it in. The Greenbush FD got there just in time. There is a house by the pine trees on the right side of the picture. They lost an old fallen down barn but saved the house. That is the short version of the story. :-)

beautiful!! i know you're from the other side of Ontario (according to your profile), where is this photo taken?"
Thanks. This was shot in Northwestern Ontario about 100 km north of WCPP. One of the most spectacular sites I have ever camped at and talk about isolated!

I visited Havana for a bit. Its a confusing and interesting place. I was sitting in the courtyard of the Hotel Nacional (where the revolution ended and also the location of the missile tunnels in the 60s). I was pondering the interplay of public and private, when all of a sudden my mojito was gone and everything came into greater focus.

quote Mocha: "maybe it's something in the water of the Ozarks? :) there are probably different color phases for mink just like martens, bears, beavers..."
Well, I see minks quite frequently, but this one seemed significantly lighter? They're usually more of a chocolate brown around here. Here's another one more normally colored:
