Unless I'm mistaken it looks like "Bison in a Snowstorm Taking a Poo." How long did you sit in a blind waiting for that glorious moment?!

03/04/2017 09:06PM
no blind, just blind luck! had to hike around the enclosure to get to a spot where i could at least see them! they are not very cooperative! :) they were a couple hundred yards from the fence, it was blowing and snowing so i was trying to steady my camera on the fence wire. just kept pressing the button. i was pretty excited when i saw i captured that special private moment.

joe, i love that area of the PNW. tell me, i see the path coming out of the far woods and along the shore, all the tall peaks... do you ever feel claustrophobic out there? i mean, compared to the BWCW where you are surrounded by water and can see quite a distance...

No, he was not sneaking up on me. Truth be told, he created a huge traffic jam and was just looking for a place to cross the road.

Anthropologist believe the carvers believed that water flowing over the thousands of round protuberances would make the rice paddy's just downstream more "fertile". At the time, the not so far away Angkor Wat was probably the largest city on earth.

at first i thought it was a golf course in MT, then i enlarged it (and read your description) and now wonder what you have that grazes and keeps that so nice looking!?
i take it the flooding, fires and dam issues are all resolved?

03/20/2017 08:53AM
It does kind of look like a golf course! We have range cattle on the property most of the year. They feed it off all summer, that keeps the fire danger down. When it starts raining in the fall everything turns green again. Yes, the floods, dam problems, road issues are all, hopefully, in the past. We can even drive the Subaru out again.

Uncontrolled burn. This was a few years ago, about 1/2 mile south of my cabin. The local farmer tried to burn of some cattails on a very dry windy afternoon. Not sure what he was thinking. I saw the smoke and went to investigate as it was coming my way. I was able to get enough signal with my phone to call it in. The Greenbush FD got there just in time. There is a house by the pine trees on the right side of the picture. They lost an old fallen down barn but saved the house. That is the short version of the story. :-)

03/22/2017 06:46PM
how does the guy even get a burn permit on a day like that??? crazeeeee.

I visited Havana for a bit. Its a confusing and interesting place. I was sitting in the courtyard of the Hotel Nacional (where the revolution ended and also the location of the missile tunnels in the 60s). I was pondering the interplay of public and private, when all of a sudden my mojito was gone and everything came into greater focus.

Well, I see minks quite frequently, but this one seemed significantly lighter? They're usually more of a chocolate brown around here. Here's another one more normally colored:
