I use this product as intended but not on a sweetwater filter, at $7 for each replacement filter I am on year two with my $45 regular filter, I replace the sediment filter only when it becomes plugged It just finished a 15 day trip with no problems

Unfortunately they discontinued the MSR SweetWater SiltStopper Prefilter replacement filter. But you can use maple syrup polyester filter material and cut it down to size, wrap it 2 times and it works just as well. Not only that but the maple syrup filter is washable and reusable. So you will actually save money compared to buying a new filter every trip (3 were $12).
