Camp Notes:
Slightly elevated sloping open site. Timber stairs lead up to the site from an average smooth rock landing. Heavily used site that shows its wear.

Stayed 3 nights solo here 8/30-9/1/22. Excellent site with a few ledge rocks in front of a large stairway entrance up to the elevated site. Better canoe landing is around to the south which has another nice ledge rock and less rocky lake bottom for swimming. Both spots are great for fishing from shore, swimming or taking in some sun. Excellent western facing for sunset and nice pines for hanging hammocks by the water. Fire grate area has really nice and large sitting logs around that could accommodate a large group. 3 good tent pads and numerous other marginal locations. Latrine is a solid distance back due to the nature of the site being on a point. Site is well used. Firewood at camp is scarce and there is some obvious abuse to live trees and inappropriate cutting down of small pines. A short canoe trip south across the bay gets you to plenty of downed/dead wood to harvest. I'd recommend taking that time if you want a fire. I did have a bear visit while cooking dinner on 8/31, but it got nothing from me and never came back that night or the following night.

This is the nicest camp site I have encountered in the BWCA. Large open areas for tarps, tents, and kitchen areas. Breezy to keep away bugs. 3 superb landing areas; 1 landing area even has steps. Nice sand/gravel beach areas. Great swimming. Excellent rock platform for gathering water, sunbathing or watching the stars. Super nice toilet. Several pack hanging options. Beautiful 300° views. It just doesn't get any better than this.

This may be the infamous Mondale site. The stairs are a welcome benefit. There is room for three or more tents with a wide open area behind the fire grate. Fantastic sunset views as well. To top it off there is a lid on the throne which is a rare luxury. During our stay MANY groups went by looking to see if the site was available. If you want it get there early.

Awesome campsite. Only two of us, but plenty of tent pads for 8. Easy access from Horseshoe and to Winchell. When wind is coming from West, bugs are hard to find.

Very large site. Fun trails off behind main site. Good for exploring. Stayed here the night before we were to leave. Had made it here from Snowbank 3 days earlier. Downside was a lot of garbage left at site.

Has a nice stairway wecoming wouldbe visitors. There is also a good landing around back if the wind dictates using it. Great firegrate area & nice views to the west across lake. Lots room to move & several nice tent pads.

Stayed two nights, caught fish, saw moose, good swimming, large site. Best site I've stayed at in 5 years of BW trips.
