Trip Overview
Annotated map of water covered during my trip
Largest fish of trip
I played this 43" northern for about 15 minutes (8lb test) before getting him on a stringer and paddling my solo craft to short for a quick photo op. (I also caught over 40 walleye that afternoon).
Pink Cordalis
Its always interesting to find unexpected color in the forest.
Strawberries
There were several small patches around our campsite
Artery Falls - North (b)
The water beyond these falls is Mary's lake. I suspect the take out was supposed to be next to the falls, but if there was any trail, it was completely obliterated. We reached water by going further left (out of frame).
Artery Falls - North (a)
We exited Artery around this first set of falls ... a 35 rod portage around this and a second set of falls (less than 1/2 of the actual trail was visible without some clearing).
Artery Pictos: Sample panel #3
And a variety of animals, among which the buffalo is probably the most associated with this site.
Artery Pictos: Sample panel #2
Here there are human images but other symbolism as well
Artery Pictos: Sample panel #1
Many images hear are related to people and canoeing
Pictograph Mural on Artery
This cliff face holds some of the most spectacular pictographs on the Ontario boreal shield.
Artery Falls - South
This set of falls is flanked by a 14 rod portage (but we couldn't find it under all the deadfall.
Blueberries?
Looks like a bumper crop for later in the season.
Flora/Fauna
I wonder how many different creatures serve as pollinators in the boreal forest.
