Tuesday, July 15, 2008 We get up early and head up the North Shore stopping at Gooseberry Falls state park and Spilt Rock Light house. These are really beautiful places and well worth the stop. The North Shore is truly one of the most wonderful drives one can make. We stop for lunch in Beaver Bay and head up to Illgen City to take Hwy 1 to Ely. I have always enjoyed the drive on Hwy 1. Along the way we see deer and mink crossing the Hwy. The road side flowers are truly a delight. We arrive in Ely around 3:30 and make a stop in front of the web cam for the dear wife, who saved the picture as the back ground on our computer. After a stop at the Ely outlet for some last minute items we head up to LaTourell’s Resort on Moose Lake. We are partial outfitting thru them, a Duluth Pack, two therma-rests, a crazy creek for my son and a canoe. We talk to several there about the fishing and what they have been fishing with.. We are spending the night in their bunkhouse so we finish our packing, review our plans and watch a marvelous sunset along with picking up a couple of bass from the dock. This is the first time I have used LaTourell’s and the staff and the resort were really great and we would truly use them again.
