From what I heard and could tell, it dripped and drizzled most of last night. Looking out from the tent I could see it was breezy and an ugly gray day. I stayed in the tent for a while before making myself get out and make some breakfast. Hot instant oatmeal plus a shot of regular oats, raisins and dry milk, along with a cup of hot coffee got me going.

My park permit was for eight nights and I had them start my 8-day conservation license today so I went out and tried fishing nearby. The wind was too much, especially with the rain, so I came back and optimistically sawed some firewood for later. Yesterday evening I had stashed and old Utz pretzel container with a week's worth of various snacks in the woods away from the main area. Now I cannot find them. Great. So around 11 I got back in the tent to warm up and dry out.

Weather was about the same at around 1 PM and I had a cold lunch of sausage and cheese while watching the bleak-looking mist up and down Cirrus. Still tired from yesterday's work I decided today was just going to be a "recovery" day and got back into the tent around 3 PM. At 6 PM I started to make some supper and started to see some blue skies AND I found the missing snacks. Eureka!

Supper was kind of a "dirtbag" concoction of mushroom Ramen noodles with a package of foil tuna mixed in. It was OK and another one-pot cleanup. A little after eight I was back in the tent and felt much recovered and since the sky was clearing and NOAA radio said tomorrow would be clear, I left the fly unzipped so I could see out through the screen. (I could only get the weather for International Falls, not the bi-lingual weather including Quetico as we did in June. They also said Saturday night might be frosty!)

Sometime around supper I heard a plane heading west to east and south of Cirrus and figured it was probably the First Nation who were using Quetico Lake this year. Today I saw no one and except for the party still occupying the point across the lake, I felt like I owned the west end of Cirrus. At some point during the night I woke up and briefly looked through the screen and saw the stars. Awesome!
