Woke up at 6:30 a.m. Jody decided to make coffee. He discovered old grounds in the coffee maker. The way the coffee tasted, he must have used them. We then decided to go up to the camp store to buy our licenses. Nice store with a very pretty and delightful clerk. Jody was quite smitten with her. After some heavy flirting we decided to head to Dryden for the day. I had never been and it was another beautiful day for a drive. The route from Atikokan to Dryden was very scenic with no traffic. We stopped along the way for some picture taking and some exploring. Nice area. We arrived in Dryden. I was not too impressed, typical town for the northland. We heard the bugs were bad in Quetico so we stopped and looked for mosquito shelters. We could not make up our minds up between the Expansion mansion and the cabbage patch models, so we opted for none. Do not need any more weight to haul anyway. We made a quick stop for lunch at the Chubby Chicken –A &W and back to Atitokan we went. Jody ws having a hard time figuring out the kilometer thing. He thinks he’s stupid-- I assure him he is not, although he was on this trip so who am I to judge. He seemed fascinated with the whole money thing ….Loonies,Toonies, etc. I gave him a shiny Toonie; it seemed to entertain him for a while. We arrived back at town for a quick bite to eat. We picked up some very expensive beer and headed back to the cabin. It was hot so we decided to sit outside, have some beers and watch all the disfunctionality that was before us. To our left was a dad yelling at their kids, to our right was a mom yelling at her kids, and straight ahead was a 60 year old ex hippie woman playing the tambourine and singing a Janice Joplin song. Can’t wait to get to Quetico. Later that night I looked up into the night to see what I thought was lightning. Low and behold it was a display of Northern lights. What a sight!!!! They continued to amaze us for 2 hours. I heard the next day that they started again later but we were fast asleep.
