Day 2

We all woke early in anticipation of what the day would bring. I had told everyone that this would be a difficult day as there were many portages and a couple of long ones. After the first 24 rod portage into Lark Lake we already could not locate the next 20 rod portage into Cole Lake, not sure how confident I was as the “guide” at this point. After a little help from some fellow paddlers that we met we made it to what I consider the muddiest portage I have ever been too. Several years ago I bought a Souris River canoe that I had wanted for years. My husband laughs as he tells people that the canoe weighs nothing as I enjoy doing all the canoe carrying during portaging. We will see how long that lasts. After the 177 rod portage we took a break and checked out Sue Falls, we were officially in Quetico!

Not sure if Derek would approve of me writing this, however he had a little mishap with his paddle as we landed at Sue Falls. Needless to say we are thankful that James had brought ductape.

Then came the 195 rod portage, this one was difficult. Originally we had planned this trip a week earlier, however James had pulled his back. Not wanting to cancel he gave it a week to recover, probably could have taken a little more, What a Trooper! I am sure all the “extra” tetra packs of wine Dee packed had helped.

We made it to Kasawog Lake and at this point decided we would have to take a look at the trip outline and make revision number 1 of more to come. LOL. Instead of approximately 120 km in 6 days we cut it in half. A little more leisurely then Derek and I were used to but we could use a little R&R this time round as could his paddle! LOL
