Woke up about 6 a.m. Looked out the little window in my tent, grey and cold. Slept till 7 a.m., when I unzipped the tent, a chunk of ice slid off the vestibule. The tent and everything else was covered with ice and snow. The sand on the bottom of the Dark Lady was frozen on. Temperature was 26 degrees but no wind. Walleye fishing was fast and furious with my first walleye being 22 inches. I have no pictures as my battery died since it was too cold, after warming it in my pocket it worked later in the day. The second fish was a 36 inch northern a few minutes later, again dead camera battery. These two were the biggest fish of the trip, go figure. Both caught jigging with a gulp minnow no less than a hundred yards off camp. Jigged about a dozen walleyes in the next half hour then started trolling with a greenish yellow Flicker shad. I trolled that Flicker shad wherever I went and caught a fish about every 10 minutes. Worked a big weed bed but only caught hammer handles around 30 inches long but caught one about every 4 or 5 cast. Fished until almost 7 p.m. and caught fish almost everywhere I went. High temp for the day was 50 degrees which was the high for the trip, the rest of the trip it was in the very low forties during the day, and low 30's at night.
