And They Call the Wind Mariah

The next morning we awoke just early enough to get a picture of the sunrise from outside our tent, but were soon snoozing again.

However, that didn't last long as there was soon a howling of the wind in the trees. The lake filled with white caps, and we decided that this would be a good day to stay put since we had planned for just such an eventuality. I got the song, They Call the Wind Mariah, from Paint Your Wagon stuck in my head. It was a good day to lie on a rock, watch a few clouds blow across the sky and the waves break on the shore. Lying on your back on an outcropping of Canadian shield rock and watching the day go by can be a very rewarding experience.

We didn't see any large mammals (bears, wolves, deer or MOOSE) on this trip. However, we saw some signs that they had been around our camp.

About this time I figured out that I had made a packing error. I'd forgotten to put an Apple lightening cord in with the electronics. So, we had to be more selective in taking pictures for the rest of the trip. Fortunately, my wife had a new phone with a good battery, and I did remember the micro USB cord and battery bank to keep the Garmin InReach Mini (satellite communicator) going. (Non-trippers note that there is no cell service in most of Quetico.)
