Any tips of comments on Basswood River? I've been as far as Thursday Bay but going all the way though Lac La Croix to Little Indian Sioux pick-up on a Quetico permit (have a BWCA permit for last night).

Thanks.

take all the portages, this is a nasty river that has killed people.once your thru the last set the rest is just a float downstream but watch your map so you don't get tricked into a bay along the way.lots of fisherman from the US side camp here so just move thru and enjoy the view but don't expect and good camping.

the portages on the river are easy to go thru, and the long one can be broken up if you want to. The one in the middle, before wheelbarrow, coming from basswood, can be a tough put in depending on flow, and a tough get to, coming up river if water is high. You can email me if you want to for more details, I am very familiar with them.

Thanks. We're planning a semi-leisurely trip of 8 nights from PP so plan to poke into Canadian side for campsites. I'm pretty lax about wearing PFD but expect I'll have it on this trip. With one night on Lac La Croix, not sure if we'll stay on US or Canadian side. Kind of curious if there is any reason to visit the village of LLC or reason not to.

if you have all the paperwork to cross into Canada and go thru customs when you come back to the States the village might be worth a look.
the cafe in the village is said to be good and the fisherman from the nearby lodges eat there.you might get lucky and be there when they have a Pow Wow..check Youtube for Lac La Croix and you will see some local stuff there.until the road was pushed thru this was a very remote reserve, the Ranger station near the village has a fence around the parking lot.
