Kanoes, have you considered using a Yak paddle for this one? I think it would be useful on large lakes.

Absolutely, go counter-clockwise. Downstream on the Maligne, and probably downwind on the big border lakes (no guarantees about wind direction, though!).

I'll let you use my yak if you'd like to try it, Jan.

quote Obergut: "Roughly, which major lakes are you exploring? Is that Moose entry as in SE of PP?" PP registration (carp entry) via moose, newfound, sucker and head east on knife, ottertrack. i will pretty much be following the loop listed in beymers book. i may vary it when i get close to LLC.

quote Obergut: "I'm not familiar with the book. But, holy crap, that's a lot of h2o. Are you going up to Kawnipi to Sturgeon (if CCW) to LLC? I would do CCW also." yeah, thru the poets to sturgeon, then down the maligne. cutting down to darky and argo is one thought i have too.

If Sturgeon from Kawnipi looks to be a stretch, don't be afraid to come back through Camel-Veron-Del-Conmee. Awesome area, and pretty easy/fun portages. 3 thumbs up on that route.

Do you go thru posters withdraw when you are off the board for 14 days. Where is the count-down thread?

an 8oz, 10" fiskars retractable saw. no hatchet or axe. still torn about the chair...its only 2 lbs. :) no binocs.

My crazy creek canoe seat w/backrest will do double duty around the firepit.
My real luxury is a DSLR camera which is heavy and also bringing a small point and shoot with HD video capabilities. Besides binocs I am going bare bones as light as possible.

That will be a nice, leisurely trip.

Sturgeon is an awesome lake. I have an excellent tip for a camp if you need one. It's minutes from walleye haven w/o the SMBs. Darky/Argo is nice too, but a LOT of people think so too. However, you may be looking forward to seeing people after the trek from Kawnipi.
How much time do you have?

Axe, saw or both? Chair or no chair? Binoculars?
What I'm getting at is how you intend to go light. For my solo I'm getting down to bare necessities. I will concede to bringing binocs though.
