I have done this trip solo several times. Since I have done it solo it takes me most of the day as I have to triple portage with heavy packs and I drag a line while I am paddling. None of the portages are difficult except the last one which is longer and has a steep hill but you are going down it. Once you get to Cirrus there is an over used campsite on the point across from the portage but there is a better one on an island half a mile up the channel to the west. Hope that helps.

Four of us looking to enter through Lerome this September. Can you get to Sue Falls in under 5 hours (assuming moderate pace and double portaging)? How bad are the creeks / portages along this route - anyone have to push/drag through? Beaver dams? Is last portage steep / rocky? Would appreciate any feedback. Thanks all!

I have found the best information about this area at Quiet Journey, in the in Inukshuk forums, the area reserved for contributors. That said, if Stumpy shows up at the Windy City Winter Wingnight on 21st - kind of think he will - he has a lot of experience in that area.

No personal experience but in researching it, I assume I could make it to Cirrus by end of first day. I've been told only that last long portage is harder and the others are easy. I loved Cirrus and Q lake and that area.

My understanding is that you cannot leave your car at the parking area off highway. Is that the case? I like Beaverhouse just because it is set up to leave a vehicle there.

You could probably arrange to leave your car in Canoe Canada's locked car lot in Atikokan and have them drop you off and pick you up. They will charge you but your car will be safe and you don't have to return to your drop off point.

I left my car at the small lot ioff the highway many years ago, but don't think I would do it now.

I think the only reason not to leave your car there for days is that it is BARELY off the main highway and might be a target for theft or vandalism. (As opposed to Beaverhouse which is way down a one-lane dead end road.) --Goose

I've only done that route in winter to check out the Sue Falls, Cirrus and Soho Lakes area. The portages are well used, especially in winter by snowmobilers/ice anglers. None is overly tough, although the last one into Cirrus drops a couple hundred feet, as I recall. Getting from the Lerome Lake access to Cirrus should be pretty doable in five hours or less.
