It's been a cold August (until now that is), but the Man Chain is always fun. Glad you had a good and broken-arm-free trip! |

We started with a tow across Saganaga and went through the Man chain and came back through High Man, Emerald, Plough, and Ottertrack. We didn't have a layover day, but had a couple short days of paddling. After a particularly rainy day, we decided to stay at our campsite until noon the following day waiting for gear to dry out. We had a windy adventure meeting the tow boat at Hook Island on the last day. We paddled with a steady headwind and white caps. Of course once we made it to Hook Island, the wind died down and the water was smooth. I redeemed myself on the portage from High Man to Emerald. Last time I was on that portage I slipped and broke my arm, while carrying the canoe down the hill. We ate really well. I made a green curry soup with rice noodles, Isle Royale Salmon, Mexican Quinoa and ground beef, and Curried Chicken and Rice for dinners. (along with some other standby meals) The weather wasn't the best. Cold with plenty of rain. The mosquitos were the heaviest I've had in the last 5 years of tripping during the same week. We were only able to swim twice during the week because of the rain/wind/cold. We had a nice chat with Mocha on the way out and when we came back from the trip. We're already planning our next adventure! |

I'll be solo with my 2 year old Border Collie on her maiden Quetico voyage. I'm very curious to see how she reacts to hearing a loon for the first time. |
