Perhaps it goes without saying but I thought last night's meeting was very informative and well organized. I learned a lot about potential opportunities in that part of the north country and I was able to interact with our pleasant, engaging brethren to the north of matters of importance....canoeing! I look forward to the next rendez-vous, virtually of course.
P.S. the information about portage maintenance and First Nations future involvement was enlightening and stimulated some ideas...
Your thoughts?

The AGM for the Friends of Wabakimi . It was the annual meeting to report of finances and activities, approve this upcoming year's budget and proposed activities and elect new board members.

I'm a FOW member. I've never paddled Wabakimi before but hope to soon once the border opens. I have to work Sunday nights so it stinks as I have missed the last two meetings. One of these times I'll make it. I did assign my proxy though.

I was one of the original five FOW incorporators with Phil Cotton back in 2014. I'm most impressed by the work that the board of directors have done under the leadership of Vern and Dave. The FOW is growing, but even better it is fulfilling on the vision and the goals we created in the beginning.
FOW is attracting more active board members who will take it into the future The well-attended AGM was just one sign that the the FOW is healthy and effective. It was also encouraging to see so many new faces, as well as many of the friends I have paddled with in the past with The Wabakimi Project.

billconner: "I tried to join with canoecopia discount and have not been able to. Emails for help to website not replied to." What trouble are you having. It is on the website. It's the Canoecopia special where you get the folded planning map and the new canoe routes guidebook for 60 U.S. or 78 CAD. Or if you don't want that there is also the option of just $25 for the year.

Has there been any talk (official or otherwise) about renovating and saving the Wendell Beckwith cabins? I'm imagining that could be a whole other kettle of fish...

Sorry I missed the AGM. Too much going on at home.
As one of the original FOW incorporators like goatroti, I too am very impressed with how the current leadership has improved and energized the organization.

I did finally find it and joined. Looking forward to the day I can go. Hoping to board train in Toronto and get off and reboard at one of the whistle stops in the park.
