I have been there twice in September and the weather is definitely changing from that of summer (July/August). I have noted that many birds seem to have left the area by September. Keep in mind that the greater Wabakimi area is vast so the weather could be quite different in the southern area (Kopka Rv) as opposed to more northern areas (Albany Rv). I also found that the water temperatures are noticeably dropping in September. I don’t know if it’s more rainy in September but if it is it can be uncomfortable with the falling temperatures.
On one Wabakimi Project trip of 2 weeks (late Aug into early September) we had fairy nice weather and the last group of the season that came in when we left had a rainy, cold week. As a result, Uncle Phil was hospitalized when he came out due pneumonia.

Not sure if my experience was typical or not so will be curious to hear if anyone else had the same. I went 3 years ago for 20 days in September. I had packed expecting maybe some snow by the end and it did chill down but did not get too cold. I did get a lot of rain. Sometimes an all day or night rain, sometimes very heavy, and sometimes it would just cloud up out of no where and rain for a while a couple times a day. The lichen and moss just seemed to hold moisture like a sponge. It reminded me of being in the Ho Rain Forest in Washington. It also seemed like the clouds were always really low to the ground - much more than I usually see in Minnesota. Toward the end of my trip I learned that if my Garmin weather report said 50% chance of rain, I'd probably get 5 hours or rain. 20% chance of rain meant at least 2 hours of rain. I wondered if there was some unique geological feature that cause such weather in the fall the way I've heard that warm air coming off the Manitoba plains causes lots of dry weather and storms in WCPP (which may be why they have so many fires). Just speculating on that.

What's weather like there late in the season, say mid to late August into September?

In simplest terms, it's basically like the BWCA/Q, but factor in about two weeks for latitude. So mid-September in Wab is going to be about the same as what you'd get in the BWCA around end Sept/Oct 1.
