Google maps says the drive is only 15 more minutes up the road. I do have a 4 wheel drive vehicle. I'll probably risk it...

Have a great trip. I have a solo planned up there. Might be this year, might be next.

I have been preparing for many years to do a solo trip. I currently lead groups into the BW, and I am well prepared.

I'm considering a Wabakimi trip in July. I do not want to do a fly in, and I don't particularly want to take the train, although I would. I'd prefer a park and paddle location, even if it's a difficult drive on backroads.

I'm wanting to experience Wabakimi at its finest, some beautiful areas, and some decent fishing. I will probably do a 60 to 70 mile loop.

Suggestions? Thoughts?

Look in this Wabakimi section for Drive Up Access.
We have collected several drive up spots.
I have entered thru Smye Lake 3 times.
Drive up and park back off the road.
I even got my Prius into the parking area.
While I like the Smye Lake put in there are others.

Smye was one I was looking at. The fact that you've done it 3 times tells me what you feel about it! I was also thinking about the one north of there: Sassenach. I can't find anyone that has gone in there. There looks only to be a small pull off the dirt road. But this area looks beautiful. I'd like to go over to Wabakimi Lake if I go in there...

The reports are that the 4wheel track into Sassenach is far longer and way rougher than at Smye. But it does look like it puts you directly inside the park boundary.
