I think we may layover Sat/Sun near the top of Smoothrock and Tues/Wed at south end of Smootrock or Onamakawash. We'll see how we feel. None of us has ever been to W. At least two of us have been to BW and/or Q. Another of our party,#3, is a 20 yr Army vet who has little to no canoeing experience, but lots of camping/survival training. Our 4th, is a guy who was a hiker back in the 70's and maybe early 80's. #4 was the brother in law of our Army guy and I haven't talked to him in 20 yrs or so. For us, fishing is very much a secondary issue. If we can catch dinner one or two nights, we will be very pleased. None of us are what you would call avid anglers. The route we have planned is much more flat water than river. In that regard, we anticipate an experience more similar to BW/Q of the early 70s (or even earlier). As you can see, I have been planning since last August. I am really excited. I am brining along two of my oldest friends in the world on this trip. I really can't wait to go. |

We hope to travel late summer/early fall for 8 days. Likely paddle in/fly out (or similar). Not big anglers either. Will bring at least one pole as it seems like a shame not to fish such great waters. We were hoping to go this year, but it will likely be next. I can understand your length of planning. :) Briefly looked at MNR site. Wasn't aware of it. I am going to go over it further over the next few days. Thanks for the resource. |

We are paddling in thru Little Caribou and then going around to Shawnabis. We are taking the train out on Fri. morning. We are using Wildwaters for canoes, packs, and logistics. Right now 3 men confirmed and #4 is almost a sure bet.(Waiting to see about his work schedule) Lakes: Little Caribou Caribou Caribou River Funger Smoothrock Spring Onamakawash Shawnabis |
