I'm with H&D.
I try to get gps coordinates of campsites and portages.
There is one portage that we have been discussing and I think we can add to the knowledge base in that regard.

Friends of Wabakimi (FOW) is interested in collecting reports of trips undertaken this coming summer to help monitor the condition and usage of canoe routes in the Wabakimi Area. Contributors’ routes will be included on the 2016 Routes map to be posted on our website next Fall. Interested?

A detailed trip report checklist is available to volunteer contributors upon request. For more information, contact “Uncle” Phil at: pjcotton@tbaytel.net.

We're going in late June/early July. Smye Lake will be the EP and heading towards Brennan most likely via Gault, Stump etc. Where we go after that as we loop out will be up to the group. I'll zip Uncle Phil a note as I'm on the FOW list as well.

Hello All,

Headed to Wabakimi in a week. Little Caribou will be our EP. We'll be making our way over to Wabakimi Lake, with two small loops to the north and south. This is our first visit, and we want to get a feel for the area. Anybody been there is year at all? I will definitely post a detailed trip report!

Just before Labor Day my group will be headed for the Brightsands bridge, head down the BrightSands River toward Rude Lake and fish that general area for a week, I'll be paddling solo but with a group. According to my maps this area is marked as in the BrightSands Provincial Park but if you go 100 meters inland then you are in Wabikimi Park. If my mind and body are still sound I intend to go back to the BrightSands bridge about the second week on September and head up the Kashishibog River into the Kopa Provincial Park on a solo for about 10-12 days not a loop just out and back like the first trip. FRED

Also, the Wabakimi Project (a non-profit outfit) will be doing weekly trips that are combination service/recreational jaunts starting in late May, if anyone is interested. Many of the persons posting at Friends of Wabakimi have lead and/or participated in those trips.

Been discussing a trip with Uncle Phil and he asked me to provide trip details but I did not know about the checklist. At least not that I recall. I'll shoot him another note.

That's a good route. I did the end part of it in 2011. Campsites and portages are pretty well maintained in that area, but you'll still probably see no one else the whole trip. Enjoy!

Planning a first trip with MacCamper mostly thru the old Park, probably will fly/start with Mattice Lake Outfitters, do an 8-9 day trip from Allanwater Bridge, route to be determined to Wabakimi Lake, to Smoothrock, then out at Shawanabis. Probably not the most adventurous or torturous route, but we are feeling our way for a first trip and don't want to tackle a huge mistake. Also want to have the security of leaving a vehicle at the outfitters (see current thread "Floatplanes" by Jdrocks), and we can fly out without having to get picked up in the bush. I have the Project Vol. 3 book bought at Canoecopia last year and the routes look very appealing with a mix of flat and running water. Planning to go the first days of September. Would be glad to help with a checklist! (Request sent).

UP sent me a trip report form. I just have to remember to print it out before I go!
