Does anyone know where the self registration point is? Also, where we can park? We can try to register at the ranger station but we still need to park. Any info on camping or fishing on Caribou or Meeds would also be appreciated. Thanks, Walter |

Northwoodsman: "The self-issuing permit box is half way across the portage from Poplar to Lizz. There is a ski/hiking trail that crosses the portage at the mid-way point and the box is at that intersection (at the top of a small hill). Make a call to Rockwood and see if they can accommodate your vehicle for a small fee. That is the closest you will get to the EP. " Rockwood can supply you with a self-issue permit form, too. Hate to see anyone trek out that far and find an empty permit box. Another good reason to keep a few in the vehicle glovebox... |

Caribou and Meeds don't have any lake trout, so I can't offer too much advice. Tip up fishing for pike will probably be the best way to actually produce a fish, those are good walleye lakes, but this is a really tough time of year to catch them on the Gunflint. Keep in mind the season for both closes on the 23rd. Good Luck! Andy |
